Mike designed the landscape at the Winkler Residence to reflect its coastal location atop the bluffs in Solana Beach. Using locally collected seashells, cobbles and beach glass in the hardscape and walls, the design elements collaborate with the drought tolerant plantings to create a beachside oasis. The project involved Coastal Commission review and the design of a special landscape drainage system to direct all water away from the environmentally sensitive coastal bluffs.
Mike Nichols was responsible for design drawings, construction documents and providing construction administration services for the Sony Electronics Corporate Headquarters project in San Diego. The landscape design embraced Sony’s corporate vision for environmental sustainability by using native and drought tolerant plants and on-site storm water management through the use of bio-swales. The project received a LEED Gold certification from the USGBC.
Mike Nichols was responsible for design drawings, construction documents and providing construction administration services for the Coastline Community Church project in Carlsbad. The project featured a large seating amphitheater and fire pit that serves as an outdoor classroom and evening gathering space. Mike generated the construction details for these features, which are designed to fit within the existing topography of the site and blend with the architectural elements of the adjacent building.
